Ruddington Village Reserves 0

Newark Flowserve Reserves 3

NEWARK FLOWSERVE RESERVES had a  superb 3-0 win at top of the table Ruddington Village Reserves in the Notts Senior League Second Division.

The management team of Lee Julian and Steven Crawford must have thought that the footballing gods were against them when selection problems piled up before a hastily re-arranged game against a Ruddington side who had won their previous 13 games.

Alex Hempshall, who had been called up to replace keeper Lewis Cawthorne, broke down in his car on the way to Elms Park, leading to the prolific midfielder Ed Munton being handed the gloves.

But The Highwaymen’s second string withstood everything that was thrown at them in a feisty affair, and showed that they were well equipped to be considered as title contenders as the victory took them up into third spot.

The breakthrough came midway through the first half when a corner by Callum Barnes was flicked on by Alex Hales and tapped in by man of the match Tyler  Martin. And a second goal quickly       followed when a great ball from Tom  Perkins saw Martin beat the offside trap and finish superbly.

Another corner from Barnes brought a superb header from Perkins and, although he was denied by the bar, he reacted quickest to nod home the third to seal his team’s seventh successive victory – with 33 goals scored and remarkably just five conceded in the process.

Newark Flowserve Reserves: 1 Ed Munton; 2 Ben Hage; 3 Joe Craven; 4 Liam Knott; 5 Alex Bosworth (captain); 6 Will Nelson; 7 Alex Hales; 8 Tom Perkins; 9 Tyler Martin; 10 Callum Barnes; 11 Leighton Nicholson.
