Robin Hood Colts 0
Newark Flowserve Reserves 2
NEWARK FLOWSERVE RESERVES gained revenge for a disappointing result earlier in the season when they won 2-0 at Robin Hood Colts in the Notts Senior League Second Division.
The reverse fixture under the floodlights at Lowfields saw a bad-tempered affair finish 4-4 after The Highwaymen had squandered a 4-1 lead.
The conditions at Edwinstowe were challenging to say the least, with both teams battling the freezing cold, with heavy rain adding to the driving wind.
The home side started the better of the two teams, with Flowserve struggling to adapt to the conditions and the size of the pitch as Colts passed the ball around well.
But, despite Robin Hood having the majority of the possession, the visitors looked dangerous on the counter attack, and had the better chances, with Alex Bosworth twice going close at corners, with one attempt hitting the post.
Leighton Nicholson’s 24th goal of the season broke the deadlock on the half hour when he converted a Callum Barnes cross, and man of the match Tyler Martin struck the second after beating the offside trap and lobbing the ‘keeper.
The second half was always going to be a test of character, and Flowserve Reserves passed with flying colours as Robin Hood Colts struggled for any clear-cut chances.
Their best effort came from a powerful shot in the dying moments of the game which brought an excellent save by Lewis Cawthorne to retain a hard-fought clean sheet.
Newark Flowserve Reserves: 1 Lewis Cawthorne; 2 Ben Hage; 3 Joe Craven; 4 Liam Knott; 5 Alex Bosworth (captain); 6 Will Nelson; 7 Alex Hales; 8 Ed Munton; 9 Tyler Martin; 10 Callum Barnes; 11 Leighton Nicholson.
