Flowserve second string march on in title race

Newark Flowserve Reserves 2

Sneinton Town 0

NEWARK FLOWSERVE RESERVES maintained their title chase in the Notts Senior League Second Division with a 2-0 home victory in a re-arranged game against bottom of the table Sneinton Town.

It was a tricky test for The Highwaymen’s second string after a two-week break, and they were up against a Sneinton side who had won their last two outings after undergoing major changes following their disastrous start to the campaign.

A victory was essential for the men in orange after title rivals Top Valley and Ruddington Village had both picked up three points during the Lowfields outfit’s enforced absence, and their rustiness was clear to see as they struggled to retain possession or create many chances.

Stand-in keeper Alex Hempsall had to be alert on a couple of occasions with fine saves to keep the game goalless as the lively visitors showed why they appeared to be turning their fortunes round of late.

Midway though the first half it was that man Leighton Nicholson who broke the deadlock as the team’s leading marksman buried a powerful strike.

Fine defending from the cultured Tom Perkins kept Sneinton at bay before the prolific Tyler Martin made the points safe in the 80th minute when he finished  neatly after Alex Hales headed back a cross from man of the match Will Nelson.
