Elston United 0, Newark Flowserve Reserves 5
NEWARK FLOWSERVE RESERVES took another major stride towards the Notts Senior League Second Division title on Wednesday evening with a 5-0 win against Elston United at Balderton Playing Fields.
It was another impressive midweek turnout from the players, giving the management team the right kind of headache when it comes to selection. In the end the changes were minimal, with Joe Bilton coming in for Ryan Pilborough and Ricki O’Connell replacing Joe Craven.
The Ressies were asked to make a fast start and they did exactly that, racing into a two-goal lead thanks to good finishes from Bilton and leading marksman scorer Leighton Nicholson.
The task for hosts Elston was made much harder when they had a man dismissed for dissent, but The Highwaymen missed a string of opportunities before plundering three more goals in the second period.
Midfield danger man Ed Munton struck with a delightful left foot finish before Tyler Maryin netted with an overhead kick and then completed his double after latching on to a quick-thinking free-kick from Nicholson.
The victory was the side’s ninth on the trot; eight more points from the last four games – all at home – will start the party rolling.
Newark Flowserve Reserves: 1 Alex Hempsall; 2 Ben Hage; 3 Ricki O’Connell; 4 Aaron Martin; 5 Alex Bosworth (captain and author); 6 Will Nelson; 7 Alex Hales; 8 Ed Munton; 9 Tyler Martin; 10 Joe Bilton; 11 Leighton Nicholson.
