Newark Return to Winning Ways

The Highwaymen got back to winning ways on their longest away journey of the season to the Shrewsbury Sports Village – home to Haughmond FC. Jermain Hollis returned and replacing the suspended Kyle Dixon, new player coach Francois Zoko starting in the number 10 shirt, and the returned of Sam Agar  The 1st half opened up like as a tactical affair, with both sides probing but without any real threats on the goal.  After 20 Danny Meadows, Lewis Brownhill, Sam Agar and Francois Zoko combining is an narrow miss as Massiah McDonald headed just past the right hand upright .  After 27 minutes Brownhill and Zoko combined to release Agar who was brought down on the edge of the box with, however appeals for a free kick were ruled out by the referee.  60 seconds later, in a crowded goalmouth Agar was shown a straight red card.  Reducing The Highwaymen to 10 men for the remain remain 60 minutes. The remainder of half saw the centre-half pairing of Lawrence Gorman and Mitch Robinson hold firm, frustrating the home-side. As the 1st half drew to an end, and with half-time only seconds away Danny Meadows delivered the perfect pass, defeating onto the defence, onto which Lewis Brownhill latched onto without breaking stride, before smashing his shot past the keeper to send the visitors in at the break 0-1 to the good. After halftime words, the visitors started brightly, with Zoko holding the ball up and showing his class and skill, creating several opportunities.  On 52 minutes Zoko and Brownhill combined to release Danny Meadows who ran at the defence; as the defence backed off, “Meds” curled a shot inside the right hand post to doubling The Highwaymen’s lead.  Shortly afterwards, Alfie Smith-Eccles turned a fierce low drive around his right hand upright, maintaining the visitor’s advantage.  10 minutes later the home-side were back in the game after a session of pin ball saw the Haughmond number 10 eventually putting the goal over the line. Massiah McDonald and Jamie Walker continued to terrorise the home defensive line, dragging the home defence to the left with Walker crossing a ball into the area, which just evaded the boot of Meadows. On 75 minutes, and after putting a shift in, the limping McDonald was replaced by Joel Brownhill, who joined his brother in the action.  Within a minute a cross field ball was chased down by Lewis Brownhill who rolled the ball away from the Haughmond keeper, before skillfully pivoting and slotting the ball in at the far post.  1-3, restoring the Highwaymen’s advantage.  Newark continued to press their domination with Jones, the Haughmond keeper, pulling off a string of saves. Following a routine save from a Newark corner kick, Jones quickly
